Obedience better than sacrifice
Obedience is better for men for its benefits are great, its highly favored by God and men, soldiers are able to do under orders from their seniors, government regulations are adhered to by the citizens and in the realm of the spirit we find those in occult and darkness obey their masters regardless of ethics and humanity
“And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.”
— 1 Samuel 15:22 (KJV)
Abraham our hero and father of faith demonstrated obedience unto God, He deemed it worthy to obey the one who gives the sacrifice than the sacrifice itself.
“And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.”
— Genesis 22:6 (KJV)
It is by the obedience of Abraham that God chose his bloodline of which the savior would come from. Abraham saw it and was glad
“Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.”
— John 8:56 (KJV)
It is by his obedience that he obtained promises “By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,”
— Hebrews 11:17 (KJV)
When Moses obeyed God in the wilderness he became Israel's liberator, It is by it that Joshua conquered Jericho. Jesus Christ being the sacrifice to atone for humanity was once concerned about the experience ahead and prayed three times that the cup may pass but He obeyed the will of God
Matthew 26 (KJV)
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
³⁹ And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
…
⁴² He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.
…
⁴⁴ And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.
It is by the obedience of Christ that we got salvation, being faithful unto death at the cross that we may live.
So it is important to the church that we walk in the obedience of God, when we purpose to hearken unto Him power and miracles will be the order of our life, Christ's promises will be upon our life. Gods word directs our life in various aspects, from relationship with God, others and our ownselves.
“For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.”
— 2 Corinthians 2:9 (KJV)
We are to be obedient unto the faith, if we can cultivate that then it will trickle down to various aspects of our life. Many times when the Lord speaks upon my life I prioritize the message and will to do what is expected, if its repentance then I work on it, if its intercessory upon others I obey for it is important and I know the consequence if I fail. King Saul was a man chosen by God, he was once among the men who prophesied but his lack of obedience led to him being possessed, sought a witch instead of God and died by his own hand.
Sometimes God doesn't have a substitute and He requires us to carry out tasks to the help of others, Jonah was a man who tried to hide and run from Jehova, he took a boat to another destination than the one he was commissioned and God didn't let it slide, He went after him because the destiny of Nineveh was of urgent need.
Believers need to listen more to the counsel of God, it establishes us and gives direction to where we should head. Jesus Christ being our father is interested in every detail of our life, His spirit is a teacher and seeks the deeper parts of God and man, He is our guide, if only we would listen more. My pastor the Archbishop Harrison Nganga taught this past Sunday about the Holy spirit and it was clear that without the guidance of the word and the Spirit then heaven was going to be far from many.
We are the body of Christ, lets be faithful and obedient, if we fall and have set backs then rise quickly and regain your path in this pilgrimage. God is never going to lower His standards to accommodate us but its us to strive to see that we are within the limits of Christ Jesus.
Remember obedience is better than sacrifice.
